Why so serious?
This is what happens when you give her Nutella toast.
With the weather heating up, we took off for our favourite beach (Sutton Beach at Redcliffe) with our friend Tanya.
Perfect beach going weather for a trio of gingers!
It had apparently rained jellyfish overnight, as there were quite a lot of these blue blobs all along the beach. We later saw that a group of kids had collected an impressive pile of them further down the beach. They were quite enthusiastic about it. I was waiting for them to set it on fire and dance about it as some kind of ritual sacrifice.
Blob blob blob!
Going to the beach is a extremely exciting for Amie, and she wanted to get stuck into digging straight away.
Then we found this guy, who'd already been picked over for his juiciest parts. She decided she wanted to bury him.
I'm kind of surprised she wanted to touch him and flip him over the way she did, but I guess she was feeling adventurous.
Chasing the seagulls - there were quite a few of them just chilling on the beach, but they weren't trying to eat the jellyfish. I guess they didn't taste very good.
There was quite a lot of seaweed in the water, which looked kind of gross, but it was fine to wade through.
While splashing about, we saw this wash up...
Once it finally came to shore, Amie dragged it out. She told us it must have come from a wooden ship. What does one do with a large piece of wood that's washed up on shore?
Why, surf of course! She wanted to take out into the water to try to surf properly, and she just couldn't get why that wouldn't work.
I didn't bring my swimsuit, but I was wearing shorts and was splashing around in the water with them. Next time I will for sure. Each time we've gone to the beach she's gotten braver about going in (given her extreme dislike for getting her face wet in the bath, I'm not surprised by her hesitance about swimming), so she went back and forth between me and Tanya for a while, going out deeper each time.
But it was still a bit scary at times, and she just wanted her mum. Then she wanted to go back in and everything was fabulous again. After one time of going back in deeper, she was very proud of herself, calling herself "Brave Amie" for giving it another go.
When she did get out of the water, she was making friends with some kids nearby. This was the most crowded I'd ever seen here, which is really hardly crowded at all compared to other beaches. It is the middle of the school holidays, so it's hardly surprising that there were so many people out.
When your skin has disappeared, it's time to stop tanning.
After seeing Tanya toss some of the jellyfish back into the sea, Amie wanted to join in. We picked one without tentacles and she had her go. I was surprised she was okay with touching it as well as posing with it, but I guess she was still Brave Amie :)
Why play Frisbee when you can use it to make footpaths?
The water didn't taste very nice.
She made huge leaps forward with trying to swim, so she might just be ready for proper swimming lessons soon. Next time I'll definitely get in there and swim with her, because it looked like a lot of fun :)
Once we'd all dried off and had a bit of a picnic, we headed over to the playground where she could run off some more of her energy (seriously, she was overflowing with it!), and then it was time for some fish and chips for lunch, and for her, a bubblegum ice cream cone. It was a fabulous day out!

Go Amie!! She's much braver than I am... I'm still a bit of a chicken when it comes to swimming at Queensland's beaches! :-)
