It's that time of year again...

Do you know what time it is?

I do, I do!

Why yes, it is Santa photo time!

This year they had the option to upgrade to the USB instead of the usual CD, and you'd get all of the photos taken in your set, instead of just the one you chose to print. Why they don't make this an option for the CD, I don't know. A way to get more money out of you, I guess. But I have a gorgeous child and choosing a Santa picture is always hard. I'm so glad she was happy during the sitting, because we were behind a bunch of babies who wouldn't stop crying during their turns. On with the show!

Stop! It's Fashion Amie time!

I'm dying! I'm dying!

Last weekend we got together with some extended family for my mother's 70th birthday - and by "some", I mean "around 30" of us. Just a small portion of that side of the family.

Web cam madness

Vampire Amie dares you to read on!

We got a new web cam on the weekend, which takes much better pictures than our last one. I wanted to take some nice photos of us together this morning, she wanted to take silly photos. We had to take quite a few of the latter to get a few of the former, but it was all fun.

Mud, mud, glorious mud

I'm a firm believer that puddles are made for splashing - but only on the way home or will be staying home all day. We've got a week of wet weather ahead of us, and on the way to daycare this morning I promised Amie that she could splash in all the puddles she wanted on the way home.

Baby farts

While cooking dinner last night, we had this conversation:

Amie: When I grow up, I will have a hundred, a thousand babies!
Me: Oh my, that will keep you very busy. How will you take care of them all?
Amie: Um, by keeping them alive. I won't kill them. I'll fart on them.

I had no response to that, other than laughing. What else could I say?

Holy Monty Wars!

I think educating your children is an incredibly important part of raising them. Not just the standard subjects at school, either, which is why I decided we needed more Monty Python (in the form of their search for the Holy Grail) in our lives.

When Amie saw that the movie we were watching was full of knights, she had to join in.

Family time

It was another chilly morning today (4ºC!) but that didn't stop Amie from getting up before 6 and wanting to be a knight early on. She loves her long hair, and loves wearing it down, but it always gets in her face if it's not clipped or tied back. Her new flower wreath was the perfect accessory to solve this problem.

Once upon a time...

The BIG event this week was going to the Abbey Medieval Festival. Amie was most excited about seeing real sword fighting in action. I decided against bringing her sword and shield with us, as I was sure I'd end up having to carry them. She was happy to go without them, especially once she saw how much was happening there.

Front and centre for some fencing.

Go fly a kite!

It's been a social week this week, which Amie's loved. We've been to the park and to a medieval festival with friends at different times, which gave us plenty of photo opportunities.

I don't even know.

Doctors, knights and fairies, oh my!

With the arrival of the new bed and the required rearranging of furniture and toys, Amie rediscovered some of her toys. And by some, I mean all. It's amazing how she can find ways to play with absolutely all of her toys. She has quite a collection of stuffed toys, and she set as many of them as she could up in her old bed with her so they could go sailing. I didn't get a picture of that, but believe me, it was a very crowded ship. There were some sharks about in the ocean (no, really, she has a fondness for stuffed sharks), but they were nice sharks and not about to eat them. This time, anyway.

This is Halloween...just a little early

Though we're nearing the middle of winter, the weather hasn't been consistently cold. While it hasn't neared the temperatures of the warmer months, Miss thought it would be good to dress in some summer pyjamas.

They're still way too big for her, but that just means she can wear them for longer!

A rose by any other name

Amie: I want to taste your name.
Me: *blink blink* You want to taste my name?
Amie: Yeah, I don't like it.
Me: *blink blink* Ohhhh, change my name. Uh, okay. What to?
Amie: To...Aunty Cathy! *laughs*
Me: You can't change it to that, that's already Aunty Cathy's name.
Amie: But I like it! It's different.
Me: But she's already using it. You'll need to pick something else.
Amie: Um...Aunty 'Nisey.
Me: Alrighty then.

June 2011

1st
Amie: I want to go to a museum with statues made of people.
Me: They're made of wax, honey. Not people. There's a difference.

This was brought on by an episode of Paddington Bear where he went to a wax museum. My child doesn't really want to see corpses dismembered and turned into art. I hope.

Or would she...?

May 2011

1st
Amie just asked why do I only have one kid. I told her that's all I'm lucky enough to have just yet, but maybe I'll have more one day. She wants me to hurry up with that.

She asked me to take her photo, and then posed like this. The flower was her reward for being so brave while getting vaccinated.

April 2011

1st
We're making cheats cookies today (from a roll of cookie dough we bought this week), and I asked Amie if she'd like to help make the cookies. "Of course!" she says. I hand her some dough...and she promptly eats it. Apparently her definition of helping means eating as much cookie dough as possible.

The icing is the best part.

March 2011

6th
Amie requested 5 books at bedtime tonight, then quickly upped it to 100. She'd already had her story by then, so she settled for 100 kisses, but we only got up to around 45 before she'd had enough.

February 2011

8th
While it's nice to have your kids think you can do anything, sometimes they ask for a bit too much. We were blowing bubbles, and Amie asked me to make some horse and square shapes. Hmm...I don't think so!

 I'm crazy about her curls.

January 2011

1st
Amie insists on calling the Wii nunchuks "nukkas". "I can't play bowling, it's got a nukka in!"

11th
Amie's learning a lot more about flooding and emergencies now than I had planned on.
(this was due to the floods that devastated the north and south sides of our city)

***

I have some cupcakes leftover from the weekend, and I've just noticed that Amie's gone through and licked off all the icing on the mini cupcakes she could get her hands on. Cheeky devil.

What? You mean this isn't how you wear them?

December 2010

1st
Apparently Amie had another baby last night, this one while she was asleep. A girl that she named Elephant (fortunately, it was an elephant toy she was carrying at the time).

She knows where they go.

November 2010

6th
Amie found my necklace with an amethyst pendant on, and has insisted on wearing it. She knows that she has the same name as the stone, and will ask where the 'Nise stone is :)

Being a walrus.

October 2010

8th
As soon as Amie saw I'd painted my nails, she wanted it done. So we've just done her finger and toe nails dark purple. She then asked if I could dye her eyebrows and eyelashes too. I had to tell her not yet, she has to be older.

Pretty pretty nails!

September 2010

2nd
Gotta wonder about a child who says "Good job, mummy!" after you blow a truckload of snot out of your nose. :)

***

I think this is a conversation that's been happening between parent and child since we lived in caves.

Me: What a messy house! Who made this mess?
Amie: Me!
Me: Who's going to clean it up?
Amie: You!

So nice of her to volunteer me!

She also uses her adorable cuteness to win me over to her way of thinking at times.

August 2010

3rd
Amie asked to wash up, so I said she could if she picked up her toys. Rewarding helping with the housework...by letting her do more housework? Works for me!

4th
Amie just asked if we could get a cheetah.

July 2010

14th
I was just playing with Amie, and after giving her a playful tap on the butt, she said "hey! you're going to make me ink!"

Can you guess who's been watching Finding Nemo?
