October Awesomeness.

I am the walrus, coo coo ca choo!

So there's been a bit of a gap between posts, whoops! I didn't mean to do that, but I did and now I'm making up for it.

And then right after this, simply because they were there and we could, we went up and down the travelators.

I started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Amie got into it almost as much as I did. Her favourite characters are Lt. Worf and Counsellor Troi, but she has a soft spot for Captain Picard and his sayings. She likes it so much she even had me pause the show while she ran off to the toilet, so she wouldn't miss a thing.

Me: I think I might put on some Star Trek.
Amie: I LOVE Star Trek. It's the best. I wish I had ten legs. Some on back and some all around me. But I only have two.

Because they clearly go together.

Cafe Amie is open for business!

Amie: I like you. I think you're cute and funny. You always make me laugh.

After pretending to cook, we had to do the real thing and made some sugar cookies.

What you don't see is her sneaking as much of the dough as possible.

You turn your back for a few seconds to put the cookies in the oven, and the child turns the bench into a floury playground for her cutters.

The top shelf cooks faster than the bottom. I keep forgetting this.

We also tried to make cookie bowls, where you put the dough on an upside down cupcake tray. I got the sizes wrong, but oh, they were delicious.

Especially with ice cream.

Has Pony spoon, will travel.

I was wanting to try to decorate them properly, but I'm still a complete beginner. Amie wanted to help make some Star Trek ones too - hers are the bottom row, in case you couldn't tell :)

In trying to prove that she's not a monkey, she's convinced me she is.

Amie: But I have two legs!
Me: Monkeys have two legs.
Amie: I have two arms!
Me: Monkeys have two arms.
Amie: I have one head!
Me: Monkeys have one head.
Amie: But I don't have a tail!
Me: Not all monkeys have tails. You're a monkey!
Amie: I am NOT a monkey, thank you, so stop calling me that. I'm a person!
Me: People are animals too, you know.
Amie: No they are not. I am a HUMAN.

Her hair can get pretty crazy sometimes. And by that, I mean nearly always.

And once I start taking pictures, she insists on posing for more. Model in the making, perhaps?
That's not smizing!

Scene: Suspicious noises and movements from the bedroom. Amie is on my bed under her sheet, howling.

Me (going to lie on the bed next to her): Whatcha doin'?
Amie: I'm a dog! Don't lie there! There are dogs there. That's where the bad guys kill them.
Me: o_O Why are the bad guys killing them?
Amie: Because it's what bad guys do. I'm a superhero dog with powers and I have a wooden box on my collar and I'll save them!
Me (lights go off): OHHH you're a St Bernard rescue dog?
Amie: YEAH and I have powers!

She definitely has an active imagination!

With all the excitement and planning for the zombie walk, Amie decided to make her own double sided zombie mask.

I think she did a great job :)

She calls these fairy floss, not to be mistaken with the confectionery (cotton candy), and says that she bought it at fairyfloss.com.au. Sign of the times, hey?

How can you not love her? :)

According to Amie, the sun is filled with wiggly electrical cords which run into outer space and then down onto an island (like Africa) and are plugged in there. And that is how the sun works.

She decided to camp out to wait for me.

The day before the zombie walk, my sister was getting everything sorted out when Amie spotted the face painting kit. That brought an immediate reaction of "paint me, please!"

Amie suggested I get mine done too - of Cthulhu. She really wanted me to have the tentacles on my face. I'm a proud mother :)

She then helped Aunty Cathy turn a koala into a drop bear.

Amie: We smell through our noses, and it goes bouncing up like a bouncy snotty ball. That's a zombie joke!

The glasses were a gift to me, but she commandeered them.

While trying to get Amie to use her manners one morning (something she's usually good at), I asked her "Now what do you say?", expecting her to say please. Her answer? "Thank you, Worf."

Perhaps she thinks I look like a Klingon, but since she followed it up by telling me I'm adorable and Worf is her favourite character, I'll take it as a compliment.

Since my sister was in town, I took the opportunity for a haircut. She cut off a lot more than that, but that was what was trimmed off after the ponytail was lopped off. We decided to try  to recreate this picture.

She didn't like my zombie contacts.

As Cathy needed pumpkin guts for her costume, Amie got to help her gut it and carve it up.

Apparently that's gross in there.

We had quite a few people over at our place getting ready, so Amie jumped in line to get her zombie make up on. I didn't bring her with me, as it was the first time I was going and I didn't know what it would be like. She really wanted to go, so maybe I'll take her next year.

The walk got us a bit bloody. It was so much fun.  I asked Amie if I looked gross or scary. Her answer? "No, you look beautiful and adorable." Isn't she sweet? :)

Who can resist sparklers? Not us!

Scene: Lying in bed together, Amie takes my hand, places it on top of her knee and starts hammering it with her other hand.

Me: Are you hammering my hand to your knee?
Amie: Yes, because I'm making wine. It's for the other grown ups.

Mmm. Hand wine.

This is how long it gets when it's brushed out. She is very against having it cut, so we often have battles over getting all the knots brushed out.

One day when I was playing Super Mario, after many months of not playing, so I wasn't doing too well at first. I told Amie I was just out of practice, and she very kindly told me I could not only have all of hers but a million more. Isn't she sweet?

I did have to wonder if someone had been showing Amie the Ace Ventura movies when I was putting her to bed one night and she stuck her butt up in the air and "talked" through it, though not how Ace does (fortunately). She did ask me to video it, which I politely declined. o_O

The signs are meant to read "No Amie" and "No Denise", because there were booby traps inside and we had to stay out to be safe.

Towards the end of the month Amie's dad came to town for a visit and she got to spend the week with him, with about half of that including sleepovers. While he was here he took her to Seaworld, where this ride was apparently the best part of the day. Don't let the look of horror on her face fool you, she loved it. While there, she was one of two kids picked to dance on stage with the Sesame Street gang during a show, and got to boogie with Cookie Monster!

She flapped her leafy wings all the way to the train station.

If you're confused, she's a meerkat looking out for danger. The danger she's looking out for? Sharks. Apparently there's a big shark problem in meerkat country. This is what happens when we watch a couple of different documentaries in a row.

Happy Halloween!
