June 2011

1st
Amie: I want to go to a museum with statues made of people.
Me: They're made of wax, honey. Not people. There's a difference.

This was brought on by an episode of Paddington Bear where he went to a wax museum. My child doesn't really want to see corpses dismembered and turned into art. I hope.

Or would she...?

***

Amie is on the veranda wishing on stars so that her dreams can come true.

2nd
Amie was just dancing naked on the coffee table. I do hope this isn't a sign of her future profession.

Dinosaurs! The best part of going to the museum.

4th
Amie has informed me that she would like me to have a baby, for it to be a girl and called Sprinkles. I can get on board with the first two but said she should save that name for a puppy.

***

Child is running about naked, apart from a pair of shoes. That was all I was able to convince her to wear, and that's only because the floor is covered in lava. She then sat on the floor to play but I pointed out she had no pants on and the floor was still lava. She leapt up saying "ow ow ow that hurts!" before finding something else to do.

***

While watching Glee (the Power of Madonna episode) Amie was up trying to dance and sing along with every song...and asked me to teach her the dances because they were moving too fast for her. Her faith in me is disturbing.

Jump, dino baby, jump!

7th
Oh dear. Amie is doing the fluttering of eyelashes and asking please oh please can Doug go into a house and shoot someone.

She really enjoys watching him play Fallout: New Vegas.

I do hope I'm not raising a psychopath.

My child, the Hobbit. But not one of those hairy footed ones.

 BUGS!

***

I just checked an Amie before going to bed discovered she had taken her sheet and pillowcase off, wasn't under her blanket, and had also taken her pyjamas off. It's a bit too cool at night to do that! Strange child. At least I got her dressed without waking her up, which wasn't an easy feat.

That toe bone is bigger than her head!

8th
Amie: Go stick your hands in the freezer before I chop your head off!

She's asking me to deliberately make my hands icy cold and then torment her with them. Guess I better do what she asks - I like my head where it is!

Teeny tiny bug bits.

***

It's the 8th day of winter, yet my child is refusing to wear more than knickers. I get her dressed, the clothes come off. Weirdo.

I think she looks like a magazine editor putting together the latest edition here.

9th
Gotta love it. Child had choice of anything she wanted for lunch and she chose a pack of fruit kebobs.

See?

***

You can tell Amie's used to catching buses, because she just hailed the train.

***

Child motorboated me on the train ride home. o_O

Her first real sword and shield set! She told us she needed armour, so with Doug's help we put some together, though she did tell us her helmet was too soft.

10th
Back 32 or so years ago when my mother was toilet training me, she would sing to me "you're the one that I want, poo poo honey", reworking that great song from Grease. In an effort to create a family tradition, I sang it to Amie during toilet training. I am proud to say that Amie will now sit on the toilet singing "poo poo honey" over and over. Another tradition created.

***

Annnnd now she's sitting on the toilet high fiving herself saying "potty time - excellent!"

11th
Amie is wandering about speaking in whale.

Which was inspired by this, I'm sure.
***

As soon as Amie woke up from her nap, she was armed with sword and shield and ready to kill me. I quoted from Game of Thrones: "First Lesson. Stick them with the pointy end." And then when I chopped her up, I taught her that classic moment from Holy Grail: "It's just a flesh wound!"

She noticed it was windy and convinced me it was time to fly her kite. Or attempt to, as I'd never flown one before!

She gave up on trying to fly it and threw it around like a frisbee instead.

Though that teach her to be careful of the string.

12th
This morning I was woken by a far too chipper young knight climbing onto my bed trumpeting a fanfare for her own arrival (da da da da da DA style, sans trumpet). Can't say that's happened before.

She was VERY excited by this gift from Lauren. Her own jumping castle!

13th
Apparently those dreaded land sharks are back. They've migrated from my bedroom and have been circling the yard. They must've been able to smell the 4 year old on the slide.
When we made pizza, I made an Amie sized one for her to top. She insisted we take a photo of it.

4th
Amie to me: hey, nice boobs!

o_O

***

Child doesn't like having her hair brushed, still doesn't like having it washed...but doesn't want me to cut it. *sigh* one of these days she's going to wake up with a shaved head.

She told me it was picture day. This is how she wanted to pose. Complete with a moustache from her orange juice.

Her friends needed to be in the picture too, of course.

15th
I crocheted a Wookiee (candy coloured though he is), and Amie's only comment? "He needs boobies.

***

One thing Amie likes to repeat these days is "boys kiss girls, boys kiss boys, girls kiss girls, girls kiss boys."
It took a lot of convincing to get clothes on her after her bath, and this is what she finally came up with. It's the middle of winter and quite chilly!

16th
Every day, Amie asks if it's garbage day.Today it finally is, so she's camping out on the couch by the window with her toys so they can all watch the garbage truck go by. It could be anywhere from five minutes to four hours from now, but she's ready to watch.

***

I love love love how Amie will say "oh crumbs!" or just "crumbs!" when something doesn't go right.

**
Child would rather sit on the front stairs crying because I won't let her play outside in the cold (that she refused to dress adequately for) and dark than come inside.

17th
Amie keeps asking to be packaged up in the delivery box from yesterday. Anyone want me to post them a 4 year old?

***

Amie has put on one of my t shirts and declared herself to BE a grown up because she's now dressed as one, and is suggesting quite strongly she be allowed to go do grown up things. She was just sitting on my chair with some folded up paper having a meeting about a naughty pine cone.

Those naughty pine cones must be taught to behave!

***

Amie: I'm not a girl. I don't have hair. I don't have boobies. And I have a beard.
Me: You don't have a beard.
Amie: Yes I do. Right here *points to chin*
Me: That's not a beard, that's your chin.
Amie: No, the chin is inside the beard.

*blink blink* Seriously, where does she come up with this stuff?

***

Amie: Did we come from the future?
Me: No honey.
Amie: But people come the future!
Me: Which people?
Amie: We do!

Is my child secretly a time traveller?

***

Amie: (as she was putting on a white skirt) Why is called a chopping skirt?
Me: Oh honey, it's not a chopping skirt. You should never chop up people while wearing white.

Not that I know what a chopping skirt is or why she has one, but I've gotta teach her the important things in life, right?

***

I'm having trouble convincing Amie it's pronounced Albuquerque and not Elbow Cookie.

Making snow angels in the hallway. I was told to be careful not to stand on it, because it was pretty.

21st
As we were walking home, Amie was having some strawberry milk. During which she said "mmm, strawberry!" in a voice that sounded a lot like Yoda. I don't think it was intentional, but it was very amusing all the same.

"There are sharks down there!"

22nd
Amie has decided she needs to make time go backwards. To achieve this has turned a sheet into a cape and is looking for super powers...which apparently in her nose. And I don't mean to imply she was picking her nose or anything. That's just where she keeps her superpowers.

***

Amie was thanking Darth Vader for M&Ms. I guess she's been listening to the "Come to the Dark Side, we have candy!" propaganda.

See?

23rd
You can tell she's been watching Toy Story 3 - I told Amie she can go to the in store child minding/play area at the shops, and she asked if she was going to Sunnyside child care.

***

Aww Amie just told me that she'll marry me, but I have to wear pink and have purple flowers. I told her that was sweet but it's illegal for several reasons. Still, it's nice to be asked.

25th
Today our shopping trolley was a space ship, and we were dodging through a meteor shower as we walked through the shopping centre.

Though every time she said meteor, it sounded like meatier, which made me think we were walking through a shower of bacon and sausage.

I think she might just be ready for swim lessons! She's happy to lie down and splash about, but most importantly, get her hair and face wet. We've had big issues with that, so we might start those soon.

26th
Amie: I need to do lots of work. For my pet insurance.

She is OBSESSED with the ads for life insurance lately. She keeps asking if we have it and tells me how important it is. Should I be worried? Is she planning to off me and keep the cash?
