Her love of My Little Pony is surely fuelled by Lauren's love for them, but Amie isn't complaining. And check out those curls! They're just gorgeous...when she lets me wash and brush them properly! She loves her hair long and is very resistant to having it cut. I tell her that means she has to let me brush it properly, otherwise she'll have to get it cut. It's something we discuss a lot. Usually as I'm brushing her hair. I love her long curls too, but the struggle with brushing it isn't fun!
She's developed a fondness for fancy cars, though she calls them groovy when she sees a sports car or other expensive model driving around. She likes to get the chance to jump in this one when we're down the shops. She doesn't get to drive it every time we're there, so it's a treat when she can.
On the 13th, Lauren and I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part two, while Amie went to the beach with my friend Tanya. Lauren slept over the night before, which Amie was very excited about. When I woke up, I found Amie snuggled under the blanket with Lauren on the couch, catching up on snuggle time. Amie also got to try Lauren's glasses on again, something she hasn't done for quite a while.
I needed to know the measurements of my feet, as I was looking at buying some shoes. I have quite large feet, so knowing the exact measurements makes it a lot easier. I then of course had to trace Amie's feet as well, which turned the cardboard into some homegrown Dance Dance Revolution mat, though she'd never seen one before.
When it came time to get more new sheets for her bed, I opted for flannel, given the weather. She chose dinosaur sheets, and they're some pretty funky sheets, if I say so myself. When it came to bedtime, I did have to convince her that the dinosaurs wouldn't eat her while she slept, something she suddenly grew worried about. I told her the herbivores would be eating the plants and the carnivores would be eating the other dinosaurs, so they wouldn't bother with her. Besides, they're just pictures. Reassured, she was happy to sleep there.
Until she came in during the night because her bed was farting on her. I figured that the mattress may have been a bit too close to the wall and was rubbing against the wall, so I moved it over a bit. I'm not sure if that was the case, though, as another night she came into my room around 2am and said her bed was pointing and laughing her. I'm really sure it doesn't have arms, hands or a mouth, so the farting bed may have been an excuse to come sleep in my room.
Over at my sister's blog I saw this very neat activity for blowing bubbles. Amie was sitting on my lap as I read it and immediately wanted to try it - so we did! We had everything we needed to do it so we put it all together and trotted off to the back deck to see how it went.
It was SUCH an easy activity! Amie can blow bubbles the traditional way, but this gave a lot of bubbles at once and was delightfully messy at the same time. She loved being able to control how much could come out at once, and had ribbons of bubbles all over the place.
She also decided we were under threat of attack from zombies, so these bubbles formed a booby trap to keep them out. Given her fondness for being a zombie, it's surprising she wanted to keep them out!
Don't let this cuteness fool you. Sure, she likes to pull funny faces when having her picture taken, but sometimes, I swear she looks like she's up to no good...
She somehow managed to turn eating cherries for breakfast into looking like she'd ripped someone's jugular out.
When my new shoes arrived, I think she was more excited than I was. Not only did she get to play with the boxes they came in, but she got to have brand new Monster Feet.
I have had to wonder lately whether this child is mine, as when I've been cleaning up, she's begging to help. With the vacuum, mop, whatever, she wants ago. Other times, she begs for us to do the chores now, she just has to do them right away. I got in trouble the other morning because I wasn't ready to go clean her room. I really hope this interest in cleaning lasts well into her teen years!
While out shopping the other week, I came across a paint activity set that had been marked down to below half price because the container was slightly damaged. This was usually worth $20, and the side of the plastic tub was only bent, not cracked, and still held everything just fine. Score! I kept it aside for a while and then brought it out as a special treat.
The little pots that came with it weren't big enough to dip the sponges in properly, so we used the brushes to get the paint on. I do plan on buying those 2L bottles of paint for her soon, just so we always have some on hand. I have some powder paint too, but I kind of like the idea of having a cupboard full of ready to go paints and supplies.
Making smoke out of the chimney, by putting white paint over black.
It's hard to tell, but that's Amie under there. She was playing Angry Birds: Rio on my phone, but was a bit cold, so she hid under the couch cover to keep warm. She loves Angry birds. She often re-enacts the game using her toys, but today she insisted that we play it - where she was the caged bird and I was the yellow bird. Much flapping about and bursting from cages was had.
One thing I love about her is her imagination. There are games she's played on the Wii or on my phone that she makes real life versions of. She's used various toys as bowling pins, she's chased Goombas about the house and hunted bananas while swinging on imaginary vines. While playing Angry Birds today, she found a basket that normally houses toys in her room, added her hula skirt and her rooster torch and turned it into a birds nest, which we had to explode to win the game. There's always something going on!
This week I redyed my eyebrows and lashes (they're so pale they're colourless), and once she noticed the difference, we had this conversation:
Amie: Did you dye your eyes again?
Me: Yup! Do you like it?
Amie: No! I don't like it when you die them. I just like them alive.
Strike a pose!
She wore tights as pants. I make no apologies.
Amie will crack me up on a daily basis. Last night she stood on the coffee table and begged me to chop her arms off, before telling me to eat her meat. She also told me I could kill her and eat her meat too. Nice to know I have choices! Last night she also learnt - the hard way - that running around in circles too much (she was being a ceiling fan) can make you feel sick...and vomit. She was really enjoying being a fan, too.
This morning she woke me up by yelling "Come here, come here!", which isn't the best way to wake up, but it was almost 7am, so I suppose it was time to get up. The big emergency? It had been "snowing" outside. By "snowing", she meant she pulled the white curtain over the window so it made everything looked white. As I had been rather rudely awoken, I do admit I wasn't as amused by this as I would be at another time of the day. Not long after that, she hopped up on the coffee table again and started singing and dancing, a special song she made just for me, that went along the lines of "mummy mummy moo mi mi mi mi mum mum mum mummy mummy moo."
Later this morning we had this conversation:
Mme: I'm going to have a shower.
Amie: Okay. But no hunting! And no touching spider webs, they're dangerous. No touching spider webs in the forest, it's dangerous. So be careful!
I didn't realise it would be such an arduous task to have a shower!
She was helping me put away the clean washing this morning when she absconded with the oven mitts and tea towel for dressing up. She needed to be a bear collecting honey. I love how she used the basket as a protective helmet!
I really have no idea about this. She likes to turn them into shoes. They make her look like some mutant giant chicken.
Uh oh. I think I killed it. Mmm. Mutant giant chicken for dinner?
